The Artists Statement::
                                                                           “Influences”
When an artist creates images, it is through the prism of personal experiences and influences. Lois Bradley’s prism includes memories of a childhood watching solid farm women working the land alongside the men by day and gathering at night to create quilts from cast-off garments and scraps of fabric. The sense of feminine community working towards a common goal; the intimacy of shared work load and the contrast of soft fabric to calloused hands plays a descant to the role she performs.

The images in the Quilted Landscapes series are an extension of those memories. The layered mixed media on cotton and wood emulate the physical layers of a quilt. The loosely gridded blocks dip and weave through the landscape, echoing a quilt's squares and rectangles. Landscape and the feminine influence on it are as inextricable as the layers of a well-worn quilt.
