Thais (pronounced Ty'-ees) worked as a Medical Technologist at  UNMH for years before starting to paint. She began doing watercolors in 1990, after years of being influenced by the beauty of the Southwest, and immediately began winning prizes. Some years later she switched to pastels and in 1994 won "Best of Show" at the spring show of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the same year she won First Place in the spring show of the New Mexico Watercolor Society (and the judge purchased her painting). In 1995, Thais was juried into the Women Artists of the West show and became a signature member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico. In 1997 she participated in the U.S. State Department's Art in the Embassies program and the next year she was featured in Art of the American West, a Rockport Publisher's book. Nowadays, Thais paints in oil. She has an exquisite talent for capturing the magical effect of light and shadow.
